IOTA OC-038         CQ zone 32         WFF ZLFF-017

ZL7T accommodationWe operated from the fabulous Chatham Fishing Lodge in the fishing village of Kaiangaroa on the far Northeastern tip of the islands (locator AE15ug), thanks to the owner Ken who accompanied us on the flight from Napier (Ken is on the left of the team photo on the ZL7Team page).

Kaiangaroa ShorelineBeing on a sandy spit almost completely surrounded by seawater means this location has an excellent low-angle takeoff in all directions and very low local noise levels (other than some tropical QRN and the odd unsupressed outboard motor!), so we are confident of working the world just so long as the bands stay open.  The village is no more than 30m ASL.  The highest point on Chatham at 300m ASL is in the far South of the island.

The lodge consists of a spacious farmhouse set in native bush.  It has a large lounge, separate dining room and bedrooms to sleep 8 in comfort [although there were 9 of us!].

The actual site can be seen in a reasonable level of detail on the satellite images from Google Earth.  Zoom in on the Northeast corner and look hard for our beams (!).
